It has been brought to our attention that Ramus have now removed all foie gras from their stores and it has been confirmed that their website will soon be updated to reflect this.

As a result, we call for all contact with the company to end with immediate effect.

With this decision comes the completion of our ‘Get Cruelty Off the Menu’ campaign, seeing an end to all foie gras sales in restaurants, shops and catering suppliers across West Yorkshire with eight victories in a short space of time.

We wish to not only thank those who have taken part and supported the campaign, but the establishments who have made the ethical decision. As a group, we will be keeping a close eye on the catering industry across the county and will bring about updates if we become aware of any other foie gras peddlers.

A protest was held outside Ramus in Ilkley, who continue to sell foie gras despite their lies claiming the contrary. Outside the shop, a banner was unfurled and chants on the megaphone let everybody around know about the unethical business in the town. Leaflets were also given to customers, some of whom turned away, whilst members of the public were generally supportive.

We will be holding more demo’s at the Ilkley and Harrogate stores shortly.

1885 The Restaurant have now removed foie gras from their menu’s. Today, we received the following statement:

“We have taken all foie gras products of menus as from 30.06.2010
But in our defence can i just say that we get customers asking for foie gras and think you would spend your time better asking the public not to eat it.
Regards
1885″

Please end all contact with 1885 The Restaurant, and we will now primatise our focus on the last vendor of foie gras – Ramus. Let this be a message to them that will fight on and we are serious in our aim of ridding the disgusting delicacy that is foie gras from West Yorkshire,

Many thanks to everybody who contacted them in disgust,
WYARG

Please note that Martha & Vincent Restaurant, based in Ilkley, have now removed foie gras from their menu’s so we call for all contact to cease with immediate effect.

The pressure now turns to the last two remaining companies in West Yorkshire willing to serve this disgusting ‘delicacy’, Ramus and 1885 the Restaurant who re-open on Tuesday. We will be releasing one of these two establishments as the next primary target, so watch this space.

Sykes House Farm near Wetherby are the only company we are aware of who sold foie gras to establishments in the area. After two days of them being our main focus, we today received the following statement:

“To whom it may concern
With reference to numerous emails we have received and the post on your website we can confirm that we will be contacting all of our current customers who buy foie gras from us to inform them that we will be ceasing to purchase it and can therefore no longer supply it.  We will need to give our clients one weeks notice from today.

Kind regards
Rachael Hirst
Director”

We thank Sykes House for listening to public concern on the matter and ask that all contact in complaint regarding foie gras ends with immediate effect.

Please note that the Kaye Arms have now been bought out by new owners and foie gras is no longer on any of the menus. As a result, we call upon any contact in complaint to end.

However, it must be stated that if foie gras is placed back on the menu’s protests will begin with immediate effect.

As a result, we call upon supporters to stop contact of complaint to the hotel with immediate effect and thank the Hilton for their decision.

Foie Gras Demo’s in Leeds

Posted: June 18, 2010 in Uncategorized

Campaigners in Leeds today protested at restaurants and hotels who serve foie gras.

First of all was the Hilton Hotel, who sold foie gras on one of their menu’s. After the start of the protest, the manager came out and discussed the matter with campaigners and stated that it will now be perminantly removed from sale.

Last of all, we visited Brasserie at West Park but following them being closed until later in the afternoon we held a protest outside their sister-business West Park Cafe & Deli. After 10 minutes, we spoke to the owner who stated that foie gras will not be sold again and a statement will be issued.
